Socan Words & Music October 1997

Pianist/Composer Daniel Fernandez lovingly caresses the melodies on his debut CD, Forever Romance. As the album title sugests, the disc's 14 classically inspired compositions are indeed romantic, played in a pristine solo setting.

Why is the piano the favoured instrument to describe the feeling of romance and love? Is it the 88 keys that can accurately reflect the many notes and variations of those emotions? Is it the complexity and layering of chords and melody? Is it the reverberating sound that grows in volume and intensity according to the pressure place on its keys? all there elements participate in producing the mood and art of the piano as the instrument of human emotion and the soul.

The pieces are like moving Degas paintings, They are scenic, in a natural and theatrical sense. The mood, space and colours are brought to life. " Nocturne" has a slightly conniving tone. There are visions of stone paths through woods in "Eternity". Daniel's music creates the sound of moving images through emotion, producing a bond between form and feeling.
